San Francisco police arrested a licensed attorney who practices law out of his Sunset District home last week on suspicion of uploading and trading child pornography online.

Michael Connell, 66, was arrested Dec. 21 after the Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit began investigating in August a person who was uploading and trading graphic child porn through a chat messenger program, police said in a statement Tuesday.

Police soon pinpointed the source of the child porn as being uploaded from a home in the 1700 block of 23rd Avenue.

On Dec. 21, authorities served a search warrant at that home, where they found a laptop belonging to one of the residents in which child porn videos and images were stored.

Connell was subsequently arrested and booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim or have had any suspicious contact with Connell is asked to contact the Special Victims Unit at (415) 558-5500.
