SF fire boat puts out fire under Bay Bridge

A San Francisco fire boat put out a small fire under the Bay Bridge Tuesday afternoon.

At 2:44 p.m., the California Highway Patrol announced on social media that the fire was under the lower deck of the bridge, just west of the Treasure Island exit.

About 10 minutes later, the CHP reported that the fire was out, but eastbound traffic lanes remained blocked due to first responders at the scene.

Fire officials said Fire Boat 3 extinguished a small debris fire under the eastbound span a quarter mile west of Yerba Buena Island. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.

CHP officials said a medical emergency and collision on the eastbound Treasure Island exit was also blocking traffic.
