SF begins first step in official audit of November election

San Francisco’s elections department on Saturday randomly chose 1 percent of the precincts used in the Nov. 6 election to manually count ballot cards to compare against results from voting equipment.

On Monday, the Department of Elections will begin the manual count of ballot cards, working from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the department’s warehouse on Pier 48. The manual count will continue until the tally is completed.

The manual count is part of the official canvass period in which the department conducts an internal election audit to ensure the election results are accurate.

In the interests of transparency, the manual tally is open to public observation, either in person or via a livestream of the process. The livestream can be watched at https://sfelections.sfgov.org/observe-election-process.
