Prosecutors say an international serial rapist has been sentenced to 61 years in prison for sexually assaulting three Southern California women.
An Orange County jury convicted 34-year-old Ali Achekzai last month of six felony counts, including rape and aggravated assault. The women were assaulted the women in Orange and San Diego counties in 2004.
He was sentenced in Santa Ana on Friday.
Achekzai, a citizen of Afghanistan, fled to Canada before Orange County prosecutors filed charges. He changed his name several times and was arrested for a rape in Austria in 2009, but that case was dismissed.
A DNA match in the Austria case led to his extradition to face trial for the Southern California cases.
