The Senator commits to play for Team USA

Add another Golden State Warrior to the Team USA roster for the upcoming Summer Olympics.

Harrison Barnes joins Draymond Green, Klay Thompson (and Kevin Durant) on the list of Dubs that will vie for a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro. The Vertical reported Barnes’ commitment on Saturday.

The addition was a head scratcher for many who watched the NBA Finals, but it should serve as an opportunity for Harry B to repair his shooting stroke and image.

(He will likely, for the sake of the nation, play the same role Tayshaun Prince played in 2008 when he averaged 4.2 points per game in sparse minutes.)

Additionally, Kyrie Irving, the man who delivered Cleveland its first major title in 52 years with a late Game 7 3-pointer, accepted a spot on the team, the last opening on the roster. Irving’s position on the team was reported by ESPN.

The additions close the door on Andre Iguodala’s international playing career, which included gold medals from the 2012 Olympics and the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

June boon

The Giants clinched a winning record for the month of June on Thursday by beating the Pittsburgh Pirates, killing talk of a June Swoon.

The G-Men are thriving due to a 29-game portion of the schedule where they don’t play a team with a winning record. The last time they played a club above .500 was against the Dodgers on June 13. The next time they’ll play a winning organization will be in Boston after the All-Star break.

The Giants have 11 games until the All-Star break, the unofficial midpoint of the season. Their best record on July 10 (since moving to the Bay Area) came in 1993 when they were 58-30, according to the club. This year, they would have to go 11-3 against the Phillies, A’s, Diamondbacks and Rockies to best that mark halfway-ish through the schedule.

In other words: mission possible.
