Scoop! Star gets room without a ‘View’

It’s starting to look like an episode of “Survivor” on “The View.” One day after announcing that she would be leaving the chatfest in July, Star Jones Reynolds got the boot.

Now, the daytime show is down from its usual five castaways, errr, commentators to three — show creator Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

“It is becoming uncomfortable for us to pretend that everything is the same at this table,” Walters said, according to The Associated Press. “Therefore, regrettably, Star will no longer be on this program.”

On the air Tuesday, Reynolds revealed that she would be leaving the show, shocking her co-hosts and no one else, since gossip hounds had been saying for months that Reynolds would leave the show before Rosie O’Donnell — who is taking over for departing Meredith Vieira, who is taking Katie Couric’s gig at “Today” — arrives in September.

“We didn’t expect her to make this statement yesterday,” Walters told People magazine. “She gave us no warning.”

On the same day, Reynolds spilled her guts to People magazine, saying the show’s producers didn’t renew her contract and that she was fired. Walters said that she felt betrayed by Reynolds’ statements to the magazine.

“We gave her time to look for another job and hoped that she would announce it on this program and leave with dignity,” Walters said during Wednesday’s show. “But Star made another choice.”

Ashlee just says no to Playboy

Ashlee Simpson is so desperate to get out from under her sister Jessica’s busty shadow that she even considered posing in Playboy.

“Ashlee figures she’snever looked better, so this may be the perfect time to [pose for Playboy],” a source told In Touch magazine. “She feels confident and sexy and thinks this is one way for her to separate her image from Jessica’s.”

The 21-year-old singer received a $4 million offer from the men’s magazine take it all off and show off her new image (Ashlee recently had a nose job and lip enlargement), but ultimately she decided to keep her clothes on.

Tori’s family feud

Tori Spelling says she learned of her father legendry TV producer Aaron Spelling’s death last week on her Blackberry.

“A friend of mine had seen a TV report and e-mailed me, ‘I’m so sorry. I just heard your father died.’ And I was just in total shock,” Tori told Us Weekly.

The 33-year-old actress says she was hurt and angry that her mother, Candy, had not called her. Sadly, mother and daughter have been feuding for a while.

Some people say that Candy was upset with Tori for divorcing her husband, Charlie Shanian, after a year of marriage to pursue her married TV-movie co-star, Dean McDermott, who Tori married earlier this month.

While other blabby buddies say Tori was upset with Candy for stepping out with another man while Aaron was sick.

“My mom’s behavior simply made me uncomfortable to be around my family,” Tori said.

Does anyone else think this sounds like a story line from one of Aaron Spelling’s TV shows?

No hurry for pics of Suri

Don’t expect a magazine cover of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes showing off baby Suri any time soon.

Apparently, Scientology encourages taking newborn babies out only if it is absolutely necessary.

“Tom insists he’ll do it in his own time,” an insider told Grazia magazine. “He won’t be bullied into showing his world his precious angel. Tom wantsto obey Scientology rules about keeping babies out of the public eye.”

Now, if only we could get Cruise to get out of the public eye for just a little while.
