Scoop: Scientology leader threatens to due his dad

Things are getting even juicier than usual in the world of Scientology.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige is threatening to sue his father, Ron Miscavige, who has written a tell-all book called “Ruthless: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige, and Me.”

The news comes via Scientology observer Tony Ortega’s website, which said that London-based publisher Silvertail Books received a letter from Johnsons Solicitors, a powerful law firm “with a strong reputation for its expertise … in media and defamation,” which warns of a defamation suit if the book is released May 3 as scheduled in the United Kingdom.

Silvertail publisher Humfrey Hunter told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday: “My plans for the book haven’t changed at all since I received the letter.”

St. Martin’s Press, which is releasing the book in the U.S., reportedly received a similar letter.

Ron Miscavige will appear on “20/20” Friday to speak about his memoir, which he wrote with Dan Koon, a former Church official, who is now a vocal critic of the organization.

The book is the latest in a series of critiques, including Leah Remini’s 2015 memoir and a 2013 exposé by Lawrence Wright.

David Miscavige’s pal Tom Cruise apparently hasn’t commented.

BAY AREA OPENINGS

Southern California chef Alan Jackson and his partner Ian Olsen introduced their new fast casual restaurant Lemonade (at 781 Mission St. in The City) by serving up samples of the eatery’s delicious, simple, fresh fare — spring asparagus, Tuscan kale, avocado and cherry tomatoes, seared ahi, guava limeade chicken, white truffle mac ‘n’ cheese, roasted cauliflower and more — this week at preview event for the press. The modern cafeteria, with prices averaging around $12 per meal, looks like it will be a hit. It opens May 5 in the former La Boulange spot at the Metron — yum! … Open since April 16 in Berkeley (at 1984 Bonita Ave.) is the Back Room, a cozy, all-ages spot for acoustic music designed to re-create the ambiance of the original Freight & Salvage. (But let’s hope the chairs are more comfortable). The early lineup of concerts includes a Saturday appearance by the newly formed Nell Robinson and Jim Nunally Band, with Pete Grant on pedal steel, Jim Kerwin on bass fiddle and Jon Arkin on percussion playing joyful “folkbilly.”
