In the wake of the slaying death of bubbly “The Voice” contestant Christina Grimmie, her TV coach Adam Levine has stepped up.
The singer’s brother Marcus Grimmie confirmed that the Maroon 5 star offered to foot the bill for her funeral and her mother’s flight to the funeral.
“I was blown away,” Grimmie’s brother wrote in a Facebook post. “Words cannot express… literally I have no words.”
Levine expressed his grief over the senseless death of the 22-year-old singer, who was gunned down by Kevin James Loibl, 27, of St. Petersburg, Fla., while signing autographs Friday after a show at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Fla. — a day before and three miles away from the nightclub where gunman Omar Mateen killed 49 people and injured 53.
Loibl fatally shot himself after Marcus tackled him, police reported. About 120 people were at the meet-and-greet, authorities said, and the brother’s quick action may have saved other lives.
Kirk Colvin, former general manager of the venue, issued a statement to the Orlando Weekly saying that Friday’s concert with the pop band Before You Exit and Grimme was the first managed by a new staff. He wrote: “It was not publicly known that the entire management team was replaced by the Orlando Philharmonic board on June 1 for the stated reason “to go in a different direction” and I believe the replacements hired were completely inexperienced and ill prepared to manage the Plaza.”
Charlie Puth, Justin Bieber, Kesha and Selena Gomez paid onstage tributes to their friend.
BIKE RIDE TO RIO
Entrepreneur-environmentalist John Hazlewood and fellow explorers stopped in San Francisco over the weekend on their three-month “Roll to Rio” bike tour, which began in Vancouver in May and is traveling to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
At any point along the way, travelers are invited to join the trip (visit rolltorio.com) which is designed to promote the benefits of the sharing economy (in which people share, rather than rent, residences for visitors) and the website sharingXchange.com.
Hazlewood — who fulfilled his own dream sharing cool experiences on a bike trip from Bulgaria to England in 2012 — seems to be inspiring others. In the Bay Area, the group spent one night in a yurt in Orinda, and its airstream, parked near the Ferry Building in The City, attracted the attention of Chaka Hayes, who hooked up with the excursion.
