Scoop! Katharine McPhee: ‘Idol’ saved my life

Some people claim that “American Idol” is an example of what’s wrong with the music business, but runner-up Katharine McPhee says the show saved her life.

The 22-year-old brunette beauty battled bulimia for five years, but didn’t seek help until after she got through to Hollywood during the audition process. McPhee enrolled in the Eating Disorder Center of California in Los Angeles, and for three months, six days a week, she went to group and individual therapy.

“When I made it onto ‘American Idol,’ I knew that food — my eating disorder — was the one thing really holding me back,” McPhee told People magazine. “I was bingeing my whole life away for days at a time … So when I got on the show, I said, ‘You know what? I can do well in this competition. Let me give myself a chance and just get ahold of this thing.’”

McPhee, whose first single drops Tuesday, says she still battles with her food demons, but she uses the skills she learned from the center and is happier for it.

“That’s why I say ‘American Idol’ saved my life, because if I hadn’t auditioned, I don’t think I would have gotten a handle on food,” McPhee said.

Hey, at least she’s not old enough to drive, right?

It appears that Emma Watson, who plays Hermione in the “Harry Potter” films, is trying to discover her inner Lindsay Lohan.

The 15-year-old actress was photographed partying and drinking beer with friends in a limo, according to gossip site Egotastic. Of course, this isn’t Watson’s first trip to underage drinking-land. In March, various gossip Web sites posted pics of Watson and her underage posse sipping Coronas.

Material Girl vs. Mimi: Who would win the battle?

Either Madonna is feeling threatened by Mariah Carey or she paid money to see “Glitter.” Both of theories explain why Madonna is giggling at Carey’s poor summer concert ticket sales.

“Madonna laughed hysterically,” an insider told The New York Daily News. “She has been asking her tour promoters to e-mail her Mariah’s sales.”

Of course, reps all around are denying that there’s a feud between the pop singers and that Carey’s ticket sales have been sluggish.

“[Madonna] has no negative feelings toward Mariah,” Madonna’s rep responded.

“[Carey’s] tour is selling well,” Carey’s spokesperson said. “She’s canceled a few dates so she can add shows in larger cities.”

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Oh, who are we kidding? The singers probably can’t stand each other and the ticket sales aren’t booming.

The odd couple, part two

When last we heard from Heather Locklear and David Spade, the most unlikely couple ever had ended things. But it turns out their brief dalliance is far from over and the claims of being “just friends” were all a ruse.

Locklear and Spade were spotted making out at a Los Angeles restaurant.

“They were kissing like a couple of teens,” a witness told People magazine.

Despite the public displays of affection, a buddy of Locklear’s is still in living in denial, saying Spade is just helping Locklear through a tough time.

“[David’s] been a good friend to her,” Locklear’s friend told People.

Gossip hounds started barking about the doubtful duo about a month after Locklear separated from husband Richie Sambora, who hooked up with Locklear’s friend Denise Richards, who was separated from Charlie Sheen, who used to work with Locklear on “Spin City.” … and so goes the circle of life.
