You Say Party disbands in wake of drummer's death

You can’t blame them for feeling this way, really. But – almost a year to the day of their drummer Devon Clifford unexpectedly passed away, due to complications he experienced from a sudden brain hemorrhage – Canadian outfit You Say Party has officially called it quits. When we spoke to vocalist Becky Ninkovic a few months before the tragedy, she was full of optimism for the group (then known as You Say Party! We Say Die!) and its latest dance-punk salvo “XXXX.” Their “Twin Peaks”-themed single “Laura Palmer’s Prom” had just topped charts in their homeland, and they’d just played a mountainside set at the Winter Olympics.

But bandleader Stephen O’Shea just announced an ‘immediate cease to activity as YSP – call it a hiatus, call it a break, call it whatever you want.’ It’s been a very hard year for the surviving members, he goes on to explain. ‘We’re gonna stop for a while, and we’re gonna work on who we are as people. We know that everyone understands exactly why, and where we’re coming from.” To honor their fallen comrade, they’ve set up a fund in his honor: devonbclifford.com. After eight years together, YSP was truly headed for greatness. They will be sorely missed.
