Woman struck by bus on Wednesday night suffers life-threatening injuries

A woman suffered life-threatening injuries after getting struck by a bus on Wednesday night in the SoMa district, but authorities are still trying to determine if it was a Muni vehicle that hit her.

The accident happened at 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Beale and Howard streets, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Witnesses at the scene said a bus was crossing the intersection while the woman stood on a boarding island in the street. When the bus passed through the crossing, the woman was lying in the roadway, police said.

The woman, who is in her 60s, was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Muni spokesman Paul Rose said that no bus operators reported hitting any pedestrians on Wednesday night. Along with the police, the agency is investigating the accident, and has identified three potential buses that might have struck the woman.

There is a chance that the bus struck the pedestrian, but the operator did not realize it, said police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.
