With governor out of state, Maldonado on hand at San Bruno fire

Mayor Gavin Newsom’s rival in the race for lt. Governor, incumbent Abel Maldonado, is currently acting governor because Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is out of the country for several days.

As such, Maldonado has declared an emergency, toured the site, and just now held a press conference where he was interviewed by banks of cameras and reporters from around the state.

Schwarzenegger even tweeted that he’d been “briefed on San Bruno emergency by LtGov @abelmaldonado. Glad I left the state in good hands.”

Catastrophe aside, all the positive press for Maldonado is likely furrowing some brows in the Newsom camp.
