Who should get dibs on the Lake Merced Boathouse?

It’s finally time to gab about what kind of vendor is suitable for the 50-year-old Lake Merced Boathouse that’s been vacant since 2003, while the area around it preps for massive redevelopment.

The Recreation and Park Department is holding a public meeting before it accepts applications from worthy suitors Monday.

Park officials want the next manager to invest in the boathouse and accept it as-is, while working out details for necessary renovations.

However, utilities officials, who wrote a report on Lake Merced due to its use as an emergency water supply, noted that it has fallen into disrepair and suggested a demolition to start anew.

The site needs to be repaired regardless, and rowing groups that rent parking spots for their boats are worried about where they will go during construction.

The 6 p.m. meeting is at Harding Park Clubhouse in the Lakeview Terrace Room and is open to the public.
