Whitley sparks ISA to victory 

Raymond Whitley had 25 points and 15 rebounds and Marseilles Stewart added 22 and 19 as the International Studies Academy boys’ basketball team beat Galileo 74-45 in an Academic Athletic Association game Thursday.

Dominic Stewart added 17 points for ISA (15-7, 12-2), which has reeled off 11 straight victories since Whitley resolved paperwork issues to become eligible.

Next week, the Cobras could move into first place in the Neff Division with a home win over first-place Wallenberg (12-1) on Tuesday and a road victory at Lowell (11-2) on Thursday. The Lions fell to 11-13 overall and 7-6 in the AAA.

"We’re having fun now," ISA coach Rudy Russell said. "Our Big Three is tough to stop."

Cobras point guard Corey Carlson caused part of the crowd to spill onto the floor in celebration in the final seconds, throwing down a one-handed breakaway dunk.

"He did it in practice the other day, and told us if he got a chance in a game, he would throw one down," Marseilles Stewart said. "And then he did. It was crazy."

Wallenberg 68, O’Connell 31

Rodney Freeman scored 13 points and the Bulldogs went on a 15-0 game-opening run to win their school-record 20th game of the season.

Michael Chiu added 12 points for Wallenberg (20-5, 12-1), which had all 11 of its players score.

Rafael Lacap led all scorers with 22 points for O’Connell (1-22, 1-12).

Marshall 72, Balboa 64

Derrick Hines had 33 points as the Phoenix (9-16, 4-9) went on the road to beat the Buccaneers (2-19, 2-11). Adrian Reis added 10 points for Marshall, while Shaun Jones had 21 for Balboa.

Mission 83, Washington 66

Demaree Hampton had 29 points and 10 assists as the Bears (11-10, 7-6) overcame a 37-point effort from Isiah Pfitzer to take down the host Eagles (16-11, 8-5).

Hampton, a sophomore point guard, also added five rebounds and five steals for Mission, while teammate Harry Howard had 19 points.

"As Demaree goes, we go," Mission coach Judson Steele said. "He really controlled the tempo and made great decisions."

Jordan Wong buried four 3-pointers on his way to 29 points as the Cardinals (22-4, 11-2) beat the Pumas (10-15, 5-8).

Travis Hom added 16 for Lowell, while Artis Robinson paced Burton with 22.

Jewish Community 66, Pleasant Hill Academy 35

PLEASANT HILL — Mike Yagudayev had 14 points and Jojo Grossbard added 12 as the Wolves (15-3, 12-0) completed a perfect league season by beating the Cougars (4-9, 4-8).

Gav Matt and Jake Sklar each chipped in 11 for Jewish Community, which led 38-16 at the half.
