First, President Obama's EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson threatens to implement draconian new federal controls on the private economy if Congress fails to pass cap-and-trade legislation that is opposed by a majority of Americans.
Now, it turns out California's Sen. Diane Feinstein, one of the most influential Democrats in the Senate, thinks it is "morally correct" for the federal government to force citizens who oppose what they consider the murder of innocent babies through abortion to accept having their tax dollars be used to pay for the controversial procedure.
Breitbart.tv is airing an audio clip from CNS News of Feinstein being asked if she believes it is "morally correct to use tax dollars from pro-life Americans to cover health insurance plans that cover abortions."
Feinstein's response is this: "Is it morally correct? Yes, I believe it is." Go here to listen to the entire statement by Feinstein.
It has been standing federal policy since the Reagan administration under the Hyde Amendment that tax dollars should not be used to fund abortions. There have been many exceptions over the years, and one of the nation's largest providers of abortion services, Planned Parenthood, receives millions of federal dollars every year.
Still, the policy approved repeatedly by Congress, respected by presidents of both parties and upheld by federal courts is that federal tax dollars should not be used to pay for abortions. The policy recognizes the essential and enduring truth of Thomas Jefferson's observation that "to compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."
