Warriors to open season at Oracle

After narrowly missing out on the NBA playoffs last season, the Warriors learned the path they must travel in order to return to the postseason when their 2008-09 schedule was announced on Wednesday.

The Warriors open up the season at Oracle Arena on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m., when they will host Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets.

Despite hosting the opener, Golden State will quickly have to turn into “road” Warriors. Of the team’s first 38 contests, 24 of them will be away from the friendly confines of Oracle, including two trips to the East Coast in the first month of the season.

The Warriors are slated to make eight national television appearances this season, with seven games scheduled on ESPN and one appearance on TNT. Highlights from the schedule include Baron Davis’ first game back in the Bay Area on Jan. 25, when the Los Angeles Clippers come to town, and the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics visiting on Dec. 26.

Tipoff time for the majority of the Warriors’ home games will be 7:30 p.m., with the exception of five Sunday contests and a special Monday matinee in January.

The Warriors also announced that the team’s Club 200 Starting Five Mini-Plans will go on sale on Aug. 14 at 9 a.m. on warriors.com and at (888) GSW-HOOP.
