Wanted parolee Malachi Barton nabbed after trying to evade cops

If at first you don’t succeed. …

A man who was wanted for a parole violation was arrested Wednesday hours after he reportedly evaded police in a car chase in which he collided with a patrol vehicle.

Malachi Barton, 24, of San Francisco, was seen by police in the area of Monterey Boulevard and Gennessee Street about 3:05 p.m. Barton had been released from federal prison earlier in the week after serving time for a firearms offense, but he had failed to attend a parole meeting.

When Barton noticed the cops, police said, he fled in a green Ford Mustang. As he attempted to escape, he collided with a marked SFPD vehicle. The vehicle was damaged, but no officers were injured.

Barton’s Mustang was later found abandoned in the area of Holly Park Circle, police said, but Barton was nowhere to be found.

Then about 8:30 p.m., police received a tip that Barton, who allegedly has local gang ties, was in a home in the 100 block of Appleton Street.

Police responded to the residence and arrested Barton without incident. He was charged with two felonies and for violating his parole.
