Wakeling awakens with new material

Good news for Dave Wakeling boosters.

The UK-bred founder of such ska-reggae stalwarts as The English Beat and General Public is resurfacing in a very big way — with two brand-new albums that he’ll be issuing this year, plus an already-released acoustic track, “The Love You Give,” available through Acoustic For Autism.

All proceeds go to organizations that are making a direct, positive impact on children and their families affected by autism.

The song just happens to be the raspy-throated crooner’s first actual studio recording since 1994, so one hell of a welcome back is in order.

But Wakeling — now a Northern Californian — has gone one step further and reformed his historic Two-Tone combo The English Beat for an entire tour that benefits autism.

Dubbed The Love You Give Tour, it arrives in San Francisco on Jan. 14, at Bimbo’s 365 Club.
