Undercover cop hinders would-be swindler

Sgt. Kevin “Scrappy” Healy was at it again Wednesday night.

San Francisco’s daring undercover cop, who spends nights begging armed hoodlums to try to mug him, was flashing cash on a Bayview street around 7 p.m. when one bum bit the bait, police said.

Scrappy was “counting some money as he walked in the 1400 block of Bayshore Boulevard” when a man asked for a buck, police said. When he refused, the greedy goon pushed the sergeant, snagged the cash and ran, police said.

He wouldn’t get far, cops said. The crook sprinted “directly into the arms” of two other officers in hiding, police said. The suspect was booked into Bayview station, they said.

“And they say police work is dull,” police said.

Top brass said they’ve been launching more undercover stings to crackdown on a summer rash of street robberies in The City.
