It was a bad time to leave anything lying outside early Friday morning in the Mission district, especially if you didn’t want it burning up in flames.

Police recorded two separate instances of suspicious fires during the morning hours, including one case where a couch was lit ablaze.

The first incident occurred just after 12:45 a.m. at the 2900 block of Harrison Street. There, a stack of clothing was torched, with a suspect seen fleeing the scene shortly thereafter.

Less than two hours later, at 2:05 a.m., a second fire was reported in the Mission, this time in the 400 block of Valencia. According to the police department, a burning couch was spotted right next to a parked vehicle.

The police department is still trying to confirm if the two fires were related.
