Two arrested for gun possession, parole violation

Sometimes one thing leads to another. Or one suspect leads to another.

Two men were arrested in the Excelsior district Monday for violating probation and gun possession, police said.

The first arrest occurred in the unit block of Curtis Street around 4:20 p.m. Officers stopped a man they knew to be on probation and asked him if he was carrying any weapons. The suspect became silent, they said.

Upon further prodding the suspect admitted he did have a gun in his possession, police said. They searched the suspect and found besides the gun he also had a knife and baton. He was promptly arrested.

Back at the station cops ran a check on the firearm and saw it was registered to another man on probation and that both suspects lived in a house in the 200 block of Pope Street that police had raided for illegal firearms in the past, they said.

Officers paid the second suspect a visit. They searched the home and found “various types of ammunition on the floor in one of the bedrooms,” they said. The suspect’s probation officer was contacted and confirmed the suspect was not allowed to be in possession of firearms or ammunition.

He was booked at Ingleside Station.
