Transient who killed San Diego man ruled insane

A judge says a homeless man was insane when he beat to death a man near the San Diego Convention Center five years ago.

The North County Times (http://bit.ly/zfWAD3 ) says the ruling was made Thursday. Sixty-eight-year-old Claude Cortland Dean will be sent to a state mental hospital.

Dean was convicted of first-degree murder on Monday. Prosecutors say he chased and killed another homeless man, Richard Harvey, with a metal pipe in 2007 after an argument over a jacket.
