Tip jar, soda thief’s capers fall flat

A soda thief was popped by a cop in a fizzled heist Sunday, police said.

The 63-year-old South of Market man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a soda and tip jar in a business in the 300 block of Divisadero Street around noon.

The clerk chased down the thief and recovered the tip cash, police at Park Station said. Then a cop on foot patrol detained the suspect at Scott and Haight streets.

He was charged with burglary and petty theft, police said.
