Three minute interview: Diane Folsom

Diane Folsom
The Virginia resident heads to San Francisco on Tuesday for a volunteer vacation sponsored by Fetzer Vineyards. On Wednesday she’ll begin working with several volunteers from the American Hiking Society to spruce up the trails inside the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Is this your first time in San Francisco? I was there one time briefly on business, but I didn’t get to see much of it. This time my niece and I are going to stay two extra days, and we want to see Alcatraz.

What kind of work will you be doing? This will be the first time I’m on a volunteer vacation. From what I understand we’re going to be working on the trails, laboring, clearing branches and such.

How did you become such a nature fan? I love nature and hiking and bird watching. I’ve always liked it. It’s just nice to get out and breathe the fresh air. I live on the east coast, so there are plenty of mountains here in north Virginia.

Most folks go on vacation to relax, but you and others want to work on their holiday. Why? Well, I won the trip and I don’t have to pay for it. So, that helps. I entered and I never expected to win, so now I get to try it out. Of course, meeting other people that are passionate about the same thing is a big plus.
