Thorough thief ransacks Excelsior district business

A gun-toting robber really cleaned out an Excelsior district restaurant Monday, police said.

The crook entered the restaurant, on the 4800 block of Mission Street, about 11 p.m., police said. He demanded cash and showed a handgun in his waistband.

The employee complied, police said, but the greedy suspect wanted more and demanded money from the box underneath the cash register. He also reached into the tip jar, police said. A second employee tried to intervene, but backed off after the suspect showed his gun again.

The robber fled, police said.
