The Daily Outrage: Mexico apologizes for accidentally killing two college students

WHAT: The Mexican government finally apologized to the families of two engineering graduate students killed by soldiers chasing drug gangsters who had shot at an army patrol. The thugs fled onto the campus of Monterrey Technological Institute. At first, the army claimed the two dead students were part of the drug gang and university officials insisted all their students were unharmed.

HOW: The cover-up unraveled when the mother of one slain student traveled to the campus after being unable to contact her son by phone. She then identified her son’s body at the morgue.

WHY: Two feuding drug cartels shut down traffic throughout the Monterrey area by blocking roads with hijacked vehicles in order to keep out military reinforcements. During two days of gunfights, three presumed criminals and one soldier were killed.
