Texas sheriff guilty of vendetta against two nurses

WHAT: West Texas Sheriff Robert L. Roberts Jr. was found guilty on six counts of retaliating against two whistleblower nurses who turned in a physician friend of his. Roberts now faces up to 10 years in prison.

WHY:
A jury convicted the 20-year sheriff of getting the nurses fired from their hospital jobs and charged with felonies. They had sent an unsigned letter to the Texas Medical Board accusing a doctor of endangering patients.

HOW: As a favor to his friend, Roberts investigated who sent the anonymous letter alleging the doctor took hospital supplies to perform at-home procedures and prescribed unauthorized herbal remedies.
