Sunnydale gun violence claims another life

  • Investigators are trying to determine whether any of the shootings in and near Sunnydale housing projects are related.

Police have increased patrols in the Sunnydale housing projects after a string of horrific gun violence since mid-May that has left three 21-year-olds and one 22-year-old dead.

The latest victim, who has not been identified, was fatally shot about 7:20 p.m. Sunday while standing in front of his home in the 1700 block of Sunnydale Avenue, police Officer Albie Esparza said. The 21-year-old suffered multiple bullet wounds, including one to his head, Esparza said.

Another 21-year-old man was fatally shot just a block away June 21. Angelo Kyer, of San Francisco, was found in the 1800 block of Sunnydale Avenue, police said.

Less than two days earlier, 22-year-old Darius Williams of Pinole was killed only a few blocks away in the 100 block of Blythdale Avenue.

And on May 16, 21-year-old William Castillo, of San Francisco ,was found shot to death, also in the 1700 block of Sunnydale Avenue, police said.

Investigators are trying to determine whether any of the shootings are related, Esparza said. No arrests have been reported.

Additionally, an 18-year-old man survived a shooting in the 200 block of Santos Street on June 22, police said. An arrest was made in that case.
