What does Styling the Modern Man offer to today’s San Francisco man? This year, we are working with the idea of grooming and “the man closet,” and we’re collaborating with local businesses that are doing amazing work in menswear with grooming and gadgets. They’re providing our pop-up boutiques and how-to demonstrations. We thought about different contemporary male archetypes, like the sporty guy, the professor type and the tech hipster, and provide some key touchstones they can relate to and that might guide their personal style this season.
Do you think the independent retail boutiques in San Francisco influence local style? Yes, it also makes it more distinctive. It’s about more than following trends, it’s about taking ownership over an entire lifestyle. It’s saying “This is how we eat, dress and work.” Even if a man already owns his personal style, there is always more to learn, which is why we have tutorials this year, like how to tie the perfect Windsor knot and makeovers by Levi’s stylists.
