  • Cesar Bermudez was killed in a fatal assault in the Mission District, another in a string of violent crimes that has plagued the area.

A man was killed and another wounded in a shooting in the 2800 block of Harrison Street in the Mission district about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday night, police said, marking the third fatal assault there in the past two weeks.

Cesar Bermudez, 19, of San Francisco, was pronounced dead at the scene and the second victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police are looking for two suspects, Officer Gordon Shyy said, but they are not sure whether both suspects were the shooters.

The Mission has seen an uptick in violence in the past two weeks. About 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Jose Escobar, 19, of San Francisco, was shot in the chest near the intersection of Mission and Caledonia streets. Escobar collapsed on Valencia Street and later died at a hospital. No arrests have been made.

On Oct. 16, a man was critically injured and hospitalized about 2 a.m. during a violent fight that involved seven other men. The man, identified as 40-year-old San Francisco resident Jose Chuc Mul, died four days later.
Police don’t know what caused the brawl, which possibly drew up to 20 people, but they are searching for five suspects.
