Matthew Mingrone, the president and medical director of Sereno — a San Francisco medical center that specializes in alleviating snoring and mild to moderate apnea — is a board-certified otolaryngologist, an expert physician on all things throat, nose and ears. National Sleep Awareness Week is March 13-17.
What inspired you to be an otolaryngologist? My father inspired me. He was an optometrist and from an early age. I watched him have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
What is the most extreme case of snoring or sleep apnea that you have seen? One case that comes to mind is a patient whose snoring and sleep apnea was so severe that he and his wife slept apart for 10 years. They tried everything from nose strips to ear plugs and a CPAP breathing machine without success.
What is the most fulfilling thing about your practice? The most fulfilling thing about our practice at Sereno is providing people who desperately want to resolve their snoring or sleep apnea condition with a solution that is simple, convenient and effective.
