A 24-year-old man living in his mom’s South San Francisco apartment is being charged with setting fires near her complex and then trying to help firefighters put them out.
Authorities said Decorius Boglin fled to Alabama in fall of 2010 after police discovered he was an arsonist as well as a deranged wannabe superhero.
Boglin was extradited back to San Mateo County in September of last year, prosecutors said.
He is accused of setting a series of car fires and one Dumpster blaze at Archstone Apartment Complex at 101 McLellan Drive.
Boglin attempted to help firefighters put out the blazes. Police were suspicious of him, but Boglin denied involvement. Police said they found circumstantial evidence: A lighter in his pocket had been taken from one of the cars that had been set on fire.
Boglin was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a hearing on a defense motion to suppress evidence, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. He remains in custody on $90,000 bail.
