As Lookout Mobile Security’s director of communications, Alicia diVittorio talks about the company’s goal of protecting digital data. Lookout is an app that helps protect smartphones. October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
What does it mean to join the National Cyber Security Alliance? Joining the partnership is really just showing support and spreading the word that your smartphone is actually a computer, too, and that people need to take steps to protect it.
How important is smartphone security? [Smartphones] know who we are, they know where we are and what we’re texting and emailing. So if you want to keep your information private and to yourself, then you should probably take a few steps to protect it.
How does Lookout work? Lookout is an app that you download that keeps your phone safe. We protect against digital threats like malware, spyware and phishing scams. We also back up your data and we can locate a lost or stolen phone. On a Google Map, you can actually see where exactly your phone is. And the cool thing is if your phone is lost in the couch cushions, you can make it scream even if it’s on silent.
