Police detained one person after gunshots were fired outside City Hall on Thursday afternoon, according to a police spokesman.
Reports of multiple shots fired in the vicinity of City Hall were received by police at around 2:57 p.m., police Officer Albie Esparza said.
No one was hurt in the shooting, Esparza said, which occurred near Van Ness Avenue and McAllister Street.
Police are investigating whether a group of people who had been standing at the street corner were the intended targets of the shooting, Esparza said.
Officers on the scene told The San Francisco Examiner they had detained a man who claimed to be the intended target of the shooting. Officers stated the suspect was speaking to a woman when the shots were fired. Believing he had been set up, he reportedly chased her and tried to hit her.
When officers stopped him, the woman got into a waiting vehicle and left the scene. Esparza said there was no other information on the incident available.
