San Francisco International Airport has a message for stressed-out travelers: Om.

A new yoga room in the recently renovated Terminal 2 will soon provide travelers a place to relax and recollect after clearing security. The amenity is among the offerings intended to set Terminal 2 a chic head above the rest.

“The whole theme of Terminal 2 was adding back a sense of glamour to travel, a sense of humanity to travel,” said Charles Schuler, SFO’s associate deputy director of communications and marketing. “Adding a yoga room seemed like a natural extension.”

The terminal is intended to be an extension of travelers’ experience in San Francisco, by incorporating Bay Area values of sustainability, technology and wellness.

A glass wall and door will separate the space from the rest of the terminal and provide a sound barrier. Dimmed lighting will add to the mood. The room will be self-serve — no instructors or classes — but will be stocked with yoga mats and open 24 hours a day, Schuler said.

The terminal already boasts organic and local dining options, environmentally conscious art installations and hydration stations, where people can refill reusable water bottles.

In December, the airport announced that the terminal had qualified for LEED Gold certification, a nod to its natural light, paperless ticketing and other environmentally conscious features. LEED certification is an international standard of green building practices regulated by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Terminal 2 serves Virgin America and American Airlines.
