SFFD joins with nonprofit to help homeless become work ready

You cannot expect homeless people to find jobs if they can’t dress the part.

Firefighters are partnering with a nonprofit organization, Working Essentials, to collect the items homeless people need to prepare for job interviews — shaving cream, toothpaste and soap. It’s the lack of these grooming items that are not surprisingly a major barrier to helping them find jobs.

Firefighters are asking for the public to donate these items to help people maintain their personal hygiene. This is a small program making a huge impact.

Donations may be dropped off at all local fire stations. The drive will run through the end of December.
