Did you know about 14 percent of adult San Franciscans smoke?
Did you also know that the smoking rate for lesbians is 70 percent higher than that for heterosexual women?
These are a sampling of facts that were recently published by city officials as part of a new quit-smoking campaign. As one would figure, anti-smoking groups are making a concerted effort the first week of January – when resolutions are made – to encourage smokers to quit.
On Tuesday, city health officials and experts, the American Lung Association and Supervisor Eric Mar are scheduled to launch a new partnership to try to rid residents of their cigarette habit.
The partnership “joins together mutual public health interests” in “a citywide public awareness campaign of billboard postings and transit displays aimed to help smokers,” officials said in a press release.
The event takes place at 11 a.m. on the front steps of City Hall.
