The 49ers and Earthquakes announced a partnership Monday to promote and bring top-tier soccer events to the South Bay over the next five years.

The 49ers' new 68,500-seat Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara is set to open in August, while the Earthquakes have their own 18,000-seat stadium scheduled to open in 2015.

As part of the new venture, the two organizations will collaborate on bids to bring international soccer events to both stadiums and promote the greater area as a possible training venue for international teams to prepare for competitions.
