Sequoia Healthcare grant sponsors wellness plans

A Sequoia Healthcare District grant is financing health and wellness programs at four public school districts.

The Healthy Schools Initiative, a $4.5 million three-year commitment, supports heath and wellness programs at Belmont-Redwood Shores School District, San Carlos School District, Redwood City School District and Sequoia Union High School District. Schools are conducting needs assessments, updating disaster plans, reviewing compliance with disability laws and implementing truancy programs under the umbrella of wellness.

The district previously financed school nurse positions, but decided to finance a more systematic program.
