Screaming woman receives help, is arrested

A mother screaming for help near the Outer Mission neighborhood late Monday night apparently had quite a few concerns, police said.

First, her 1-year-old child was locked inside her car, with the car keys stuck in the “on” position in the ignition. Second, she was bleeding profusely from a foot injury. Third, she was “heavily intoxicated.”

Reports of her screams came out of Morse and Guttenberg streets around 10:44 p.m., police said.

When a concerned neighbor summoned police, officers rescued the uninjured child and sent the mother to the hospital for her injury and for her “extreme intoxication,” authorities said.

On the way, she attacked the paramedic in the ambulance, causing injury, police said.

The woman was later booked for child neglect and endangerment and for battery on the paramedic. The child was taken to protective services.

“The woman did not know how or when the child was placed in the vehicle,” police said.
