Even the most cynical “American Idol” haters out there would have to begrudgingly concede the point — recent season 10 winner Scotty McCreery does have one helluva Randy Travis deep, hickory-smoked singing voice.
So good that you have to forgive him all the cheesy winks, smirks and head-cocks that he seems to believe each song necessitates during performance. So here’s the bulletin his true-blue fans have been awaiting — his “Clear As Day” debut will hit the street next Tuesday, via Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/Interscope.
Right before the kid turns 18 on Oct. 9.
And McCreery has a bevy of TV appearances lined up. Next Monday, he’ll hit “The Today Show,” Tuesday, “Live With Regis & Kelly,” Wednesday, “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” and Friday, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
He’ll also be playing the Grand Ole Opry on the 11th, but in between — on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. — he’ll be throwing an Album Release And Birthday Bash Homecoming shindig at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek in Raleigh. He’ll also be opening for Brad Paisley on an upcoming tour. A nice feather of legitimacy to stick in his Stetson.
