Scoop: Sofia Coppola’s new film set in The City

Director Sofia Coppola’s next movie will be an adaptation of the book “Fairyland,” which chronicles gay life in San Francisco before and after the AIDS epidemic.

It’s a “sweet and unique love story of a girl and her dad, both growing together,” says Coppola on the A.V. Club website.

The book is based on the life of Alysia Abbott and her father, poet and gay activist Steve Abbott, who moved to the Bay Area after becoming a widower. As he was discovering his true sexuality, The City was expanding as a gay cultural mecca.

It will be interesting to see how the director of “The Virgin Suicides” and “The Bling Ring” brings her point of view to our fair hamlet.
