We felt really bad for Nicolas Cage when we heard he was flat broke and had to sell off some properties — including two castles — and see others foreclosed upon, with his belongings auctioned off. We felt even more sympathy when he filed suit against a money manager for allegedly blowing his fortune. But then that bean counter’s countersuit got us thinking: Hey, wait — who owns two castles and a bunch of other houses in the first place anyway?
According to TMZ, the manager contends that when he was hired in 2001, the Oscar winner “had already squandered tens of millions of dollars ... and owed millions of dollars in ... income taxes, with no funds available to pay the tax debt.”
In the course of one year, the “Con Air” star is said to have bought three multimillion-dollar homes, 22 cars and 47 works of art. Yeah, so … we don’t really feel all that sorry for Nic anymore.
Perhaps reports that Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri are back together were premature. Despite various reports that they had reunited, that they had just been taking a break, and even that they were planning a wedding, Janet is still calling him her “ex.”
Jermaine is one of my best friends,” the R&B singer said on a radio show. “I love him to death. We’re still connected. We’re still good friends. We still talk.”
“We’re there for one another,” Janet mused. “I think it will remain that way for the rest of my life.”
So, lifetime commitment, yes; marriage, no? All right ...
It’s not over until the skinny lady sings: Mischa Barton may get a chance at her TV comeback after all. Sources connected to the show say the CW now plans to air the previously shelved episodes of her series “The Beautiful Life,” which was yanked from the fall lineup after just two episodes, this summer.
Though the network hasn’t officially decided to revive the modeling-agency drama, much less resume production on new episodes, “this is exactly the kind of news she needs,” a source close to the former “O.C.” star told the New York Daily News.
And the party girl seems to be cleaning up her act; at an NYC hotel over the weekend, she kept it low-key. “She was drinking in a corner with friends and staying very under the radar,” an onlooker relayed. “But she appeared completely in control, unlike the mess she looked like over the summer.”
Well, that’s, um, something.
