Since a British tabloid report about an Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt split broke, the rumor mill has gone wild. Depending on who you believe, either things are peachy with the power couple or Brad is already back with Jennifer Aniston.
One source tells the New York Daily News that reports Brangelina met with lawyers are true, but don’t mean they are breaking up.
“They aren’t married, so they need to protect their children and property in case there’s a rift in the future,” the source says.
“People hear ‘legal papers’ and assume it means a divorce,” the insider says. “But it could mean exactly the opposite. Either way, they’re making sure to get their ducks in a row, which they’ll need whether they split or stay together forever.”
And what about their much-discussed no-shows at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards — and plans to skip the Oscars?
“That’s not entirely out of the ordinary for them,” the source says. “Although ‘Inglourious Basterds’ was nominated, Brad wasn’t up for anything individually, and neither was Angelina. Besides, they’re Brangelina. They can do whatever they want.”
But before you breathe a sigh of relief, consider the many tabloid reports that Brad plans to reunite with ex-wife Jennifer Aniston — or already has. A Star magazine source says, “The moment he and Angie make it official that they’ve called it quits, [Jen’s] ready to try again.”
But OK! magazine goes further, crowing, “Yes! They’re together again!”
And then there’s the In Touch magazine cover story on “How Jen Split Them,” which claims Brad has already brought daughters Zahara and Shiloh to meet his former wife. Jen supposedly told a friend afterward that “all that had happened in their past seemed to melt away that day.” Riiight. Because nothing says rekindled romance like taking on someone else’s six kids.
OK, so maybe we were too cynical in suggesting that prenup negotiations may have swayed Elin Nordegren to stick with Tiger Woods. Sources say the Swedish model does indeed want to save her marriage — but it’s for the kids’ sake.
“Elin wants a solid family life,” an insider in her home of Florida tells People magazine. “She was a child of divorce and felt her dad slighted her. She absolutely does not want that to happen to [daughter] Sam and [son] Charlie. So she wants to keep her family together even if she and Tiger live together as friends instead of lovers.”
Meanwhile, “Tiger wants to go back to being a golf star with major endorsements,” the source says. “He wants his clients, who have kids of their own, to think he is a good family man.”
A sex addict in a platonic marriage for appearance sake? Yeah, that should work.
