Scoop: Hubby says Brittany Murphy wasn’t on drugs

Brittany Murphy died due to a congenital heart murmur, not drugs or an eating disorder, her mother and widower insist. Simon Monjack and Sharon Murphy say the 32-year-old actress’s condition had been checked out but shockingly led to her passing at 32.

"She had a little bit of a cold" before she died, Sharon told “People.” "You could never in a billion years imagine this happening."

“She never even drank. Maybe a glass of champagne at New Years," the “Clueless” star’s mother added. "But everyone used to say she was wasted, she was this, she was that. It was hard for anyone to imagine that somebody was so high on life."

"Do you not think anybody would have picked up on this anorexic, mentally deranged person?" Simon—who has been the subject of gossip since his wife’s death--said. "It's ludicrous."

The official cause of the actress’s death has yet to be determined.

Helping Haiti

In the wake of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, people around the world have stepped up to help, including Hollywood types.

George Clooney and Wyclef Jean are gearing up for a Friday telethon to benefit Oxfam, ’Clef’s Yele Foundation, and other groups.

Meanwhile, other stars have opened their hearts and their checkbooks.

Sandra Bullock donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders; Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie pledged another $1 million to the organization via their Jolie-Pitt Foundation. “It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence and unrest for so many decades,” Angelina said in a statement.

Gisele Bundchen gave $1.5 million, and Madonna $250,000, to the Red Cross. Tyler Perry put $250,000 into his Tyler Perry Foundation fund and urged fans to do the same, vowing that “every dime” would reach Haitians.

UNICEF ambassador Alyssa Milano donated $50,000 to the organization and challenged a corporation to match that amount.

While you may not be able to match these celebs’ contributions, you can certainly emulate their spirit of generosity by giving any amount you can afford to help the people of Haiti. Every cent counts.

Brangelina Bustup?

Heeere we go again. For the millionth time, “Star” is predicting “Brad & Angie: The End!” Supposedly, power couple Jolie-Pitt are “living a lie” and tensions have gotten so strong that Brad stormed off to France right before daughter Zahara’s 5th birthday bash. (And who hasn’t stormed off to France after a lovers’ quarrel?)

"There is no truce in sight for Brad and Angie," a so-called insider told the tabloid. "They can't see eye to eye on anything and Brad's had enough."

"Brad can only take so much," echoed another source. "This guy is just dying inside.”

Well, that beard certainly looks like a cry for help, we’ll grant that much.

Rob: Mr. Wight?

Are Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart shopping for a love nest? The still-haven’t-confirmed-they’re-a-couple “Twilight” stars were sighted on a jaunt to Britain’s Isle of Wight over the New Year. And now a report claims that the broody actor and the sullen actress are looking to buy a home on the bucolic island where they can shack up and, presumably, mope around together.

“Rob is a reluctant star,” one source explains to the U.K.’s Mail. “He just wants a quiet English life, which is why he brought Kristen over for New Year.”

“To his delight she loved England,” continues the source. “They talked about buying a cottage in Ventnor,” a resort town on the island.

We can’t help but wonder if that source happens to work for the Ministry of Tourism on the Isle of Wight. Just sayin’.

Miley Cyrus: Engaged at 17?

Miley Cyrus sparked engagement rumors when she stepped out with some bling on her left ring finger. But the precocious 17-year-old isn’t planning a wedding with 19-year-old actor beau Liam Hemsworth, says her rep flatly: "She is not engaged."

Can’t a girl accessorize without rumors getting started?
