Scoop: Brooke relapsed after twins’ birth

More disturbing details are emerging about the volatile marriage of Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller, both of whom are now in treatment and are embroiled in a court case following a Christmas Day domestic dispute. Us magazine sources say out-of-control arguments are nothing new for the pair, and that Brooke’s demons involve alcohol and crack addiction, which she relapsed into after her sons’ birth.

A family friend told the magazine that when one of her now 18-month-old twin boys was born underweight and had to be hospitalized, she started self-medicating.

“It was a really scary situation for a new mom — for any new mom — and at that point she went back to her comfort zone,” the insider said. “She resorted to the way she handled stress in the past.”

As for Charlie, though he said he’s in rehab as a “preventative” step, sources say he, too, is “slipping.”

“He’s been depressed, drawing the shades and watching TV by himself,” a friend said. “His idea of sobriety is ‘slipping’ less than twice a month.”

The evidently toxic dynamic of the relationship likely isn’t helping, as the “Two and a Half Men” star and his wife “stir up each other’s worst demons,” according to a friend. “They break out in fights over something small or some little paranoia.”

“One time, Brooke threw a Kleenex box at him because he looked at her the wrong way,” the friend said. “He went crazy and threw an expensive plate. It was nuts!”

If any of this is true, we’re glad to know child services has been keeping an eye on the family.

Sorry, Naomi!

Speaking of celebrities who like to throw things: Naomi Campbell not only was let off the hook by a driver she allegedly assaulted last week, she actually got an apology.

After the anger management-challenged supermodel reportedly went off on him, then skipped out of his car, NYC cops went on a hunt for her, which was called off when the driver opted to drop the charges.

“I got angry and overreacted,” the driver said in a statement. “It was a misunderstanding, and I regret involving the police. This whole thing has been blown out of proportion, and I apologize to Ms. Campbell for causing that to happen.”

Asked bluntly whether the driver might have been paid to drop the charges, his lawyer told the New York Daily News, “The statement speaks for itself. We have no further comment.”

Not Loving Love

John Mayer may have kissed and told, but there’s one guy who won’t dish about dating Jessica Simpson (if, indeed, he did actually date her). Billy Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins frontman who has collaborated with Jessica musically, refused to take the bait when Rolling Stone asked about their rumored recent fling.

“If I go, ‘Oh, we’re just friends,’ then it’s like, ‘Did they go out, did he dump her or she dump him, what happened?’ It has nothing to do with any of that,” the bald alt-rocker said. “My goal in life is to love whoever I think is worth loving, and I think if people knew her like I knew her, they would love her like I do.”

However, he wasn’t quite as circumspect or chivalrous when discussing another former collaborator and rumored ex, Courtney Love. Saying he doesn’t want her to release tracks they worked on together, Billy said, “I have no interest in supporting her in any way, shape or form. You can’t throw enough things down the abyss with a person like that.”

Billy, prepare for an onslaught of incoherent, incomprehensibly misspelled Twitter rants demonizing you. You have been warned.

Mariah: Baby on the Way?

Mariah Carey is dropping hints that she may be planning to have or adopt a baby. The diva, happily married to hubby Nick Cannon, told Page Six that along with several acting roles in the pipeline, “there’s also something else very special on the way. I can’t say any more.”

Well, she might mean her new Champagne.
