If Britney Spears resolved to stay scandal-free in 2007, she’s already blown it. Minutes into the new year, the hard-partying pop tart reportedly collapsed and had to be carried out of a nightclub.
At Las Vegas hotspot Pure to host a New Year’s Eve fete, Britney, clad in a black sequined dress, seemed upbeat and, er, conscious as she led the crowd in two midnight countdowns: inside the club’s VIP section, then up on the outdoor terrace.
According to reports, it was there that at 12:50 a.m., seated on a bed inside a VIP cabana, Britney stood up to leave and "went into a dead faint and just fell right to the floor."
The diva’s entourage sprang into action, with 10-12 security guards allegedly surrounding her to shield herfrom view as she was "dragged" out of the club.
At 2 a.m., an ambulance arrived at Caesar’s Palace, the hotel-casino that houses Pure, but at press time it was unclear whether it was connected to the Britney incident. It’s certainly not inconceivable that someone else in Vegas partied too hard on New Year’s Eve.
Obviously, many mysterious details remain to be unraveled in this shocking-even-by-Spears-standards story. For now, only one thing is crystal clear: Britney, we’re worried about you.
Comedian Chevy Chase resents the attention the passing of former U.S. President Gerald Ford has brought him. Though Chevy’s signature impression of a bumbling Ford in the early days of "Saturday Night Live" put him on the map, the actor adamantly denies Ford any credit for his big break.
"He did not make my career," Chevy carped to Reuters. "If anything, I took his career and put it in the dumper because I did not want him to be president of this country, that’s the way it really should be written."
Displaying the grace, charm and humility that have made him so consistently popular through the years, Chevy also pointed out, "The man who ‘made my career’ did not do ‘Fletch,’ did not do ‘Caddyshack,’ did not write for the ‘Smothers Brothers’ before he wrote for ‘Saturday Night Live,’ did not write for 12 years before that and win Writers Guild awards. It’s that kind of thing that comes out in the press that perpetuates myths about me that are disgusting, that hurt my feelings, that hurt my family’s feelings."
Jeez, Chevy, chill out. Most stars get far worse things said about them every day.
