San Francisco school students to receive lesson in traffic safety

San Francisco school kids are getting a lesson in safety.

This weekend YBike, Safe Routes to Schools San Francisco and the San Francisco Unified School District are teaming up to offer kids “Safetyville” courses to teach kids important biking skills.

The courses will teach kids important bike and pedestrian safety education. Bike and helmet inspections will also be available.

Traffic courses where children participate as either bicyclists or pedestrians as they maneuver traffic lands, follow stop and yield signs, and navigate around faux-buildings set up to represent their community will also be available to teach the need to be safe while walking or riding in The City.

The five-hour event, known as Weekend Bike Rodeo, will be held at Cesar Chavez Elementary School, located at 825 Shotwell St. It begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.
