Ring bell, vanquish ills at SF museum

The Asian Art Museum will host the 24th annual Japanese New Year bell-ringing ceremony on Thursday, where temple bells are struck 108 times as part of an ancient tradition to leave the ills of the old year behind. The public bell-ringing ceremony begins at 11 a.m., and visitors can take a group turn ringing the 16th-century bronze bell. Numbered tickets to ring the bell will be available starting at 10 a.m.
