Required smoking sign language approved

Legislation requiring specific language in required on mandated no-smoking signs was approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. The vote was unanimous and the second and final one.

The legislation, introduced by Supervisor Eric Mar, clarifies what the signs should say, which was part of previously approved legislation that expanded no-smoking areas in San Francisco. The law had said the signs must read: “Smoking only at the curb or at least 15 ft. from exits, entrances, and operable windows.” Now it’s required the language add the word “vents” so that the signs read: “Smoking only 1) at the curb or 2) if no curb, at least 15 ft. from entrances, exits, operable windows, and vents.”
